Hello from Woodbridge, Virginia!
We're overnighting at Kaia's parents' place before heading onward to Durham, NC tomorrow morning.
Clicky?
One of the questions we've been getting most often is whether we'll offer the Model 01 in a "loud enough to annoy my officemate" variant. Matias, who make our keyswitches, offer a "clicky" variant, as well as a "linear" variant (which is favored by gamers). We're working to figure out what it will take to be able to offer you a choice of Quiet, Clicky or Linear switches. Our meetup on Monday is at Matias' offices outside Toronto. We'll report back.
The Hacktory in Philadelphia, PA
This afternoon, we stopped at The Hacktory, a neat hackerspace in Philadelphia. A few dozen people tried out the Model 01 and Jesse recounted the story of how we got sucked into this crazy adventure.
Eric Raymond (Yes, that Eric Raymond) wrote up his experience at the meetup here: https://plus.google.com/+EricRaymond/posts/Qz9V1et6hhX. (Spoiler alert: Eric likes clicky switches.)
Nova Labs in Reston, VA
From there, we drove onward to our evening engagement at Nova Labs, a gorgeous hackerspace in Reston, Virginia. We ended up driving through the trailing end of what looks to have been a pretty epic rainstorm.
30-odd folks showed up at Nova Labs and hung out for two hours to chat keyboards and tour their amazing shop area. Nobody brought a Kinesis or Ergodox to compare, but Paul Beaudet brought along his own prototype chording keyboard for folks to check out. Tonight, we probably talked more about the Arduino HID stack and our design choices around that than at any point..ever.
Onward!
