The Model 100 ships with two shielded RJ45 interconnect cables. One is a few inches long for when you want your keyboard's hands to be close together. The other is about 3 feet long, so you can adjust the two halves of your Model 100 to shoulder-width apart for a luxurious, relaxed typing experience.
Your Model 100 comes fully assembled with QWERTY keycaps and your choice of several different kinds of switches.
The Model 100 features hot-swap sockets designed to let you remove the switches with a standard keyswitch puller (not included) and replace them with just about any MX-style switch, no soldering or disassembly required.
The Model 100's keycaps are custom-designed for the keyboard's unique layout. We offer a variety of alternate keycap options for the Model 100.
The Model 100's default key layout is designed to be instantly familiar to anyone who's typed on a QWERTY keyboard before, but is different enough that it will take a little bit of practice to get back to your normal typing speed. Read more about getting started with the Model 100's key layout.
The firmware powering all our keyboards, Kaleidoscope, is open source and freely available on Github. If you want to build complex macros, add in joystick emulation, change how the Model 100 speaks USB, or make keys do things we haven't thought of yet, Kaleidoscope is where you'd start.
Kaleidoscope is incredibly powerful, but we've done our best to make it newbie-friendly. We built it on top of the Arduino core, to make it easy for folks who aren't familiar with embedded development or C++ to be able to do amazing things. At the same time, you're not restricted to the Arduino IDE when working with it. If vi or Emacs is your weapon of choice, everything's set up to build from the command line using standard tooling.
Kaleidoscope supports all the things you'd expect, like layouts stored in EEPROM, serial communications, full NKRO, mousekeys, and crazy USB tricks. Most new features can be added to Kaleidoscope as plugins, of which we have many already.
The Model 100 features 64 individually-sculpted Keyboardio designed keycaps. Each key is shaped to guide your fingers for the best typing experience you’ve ever felt. There's an individually controllable RGB LED under each key, too. They doesn't make your Model 100 more ergonomic, but they look gorgeous.
We designed the Model 100's layout to minimize wrist and finger movement, placing every key exactly where your fingers want it to be. Your wrists will thank you.
With a flick of your wrist, 64 keys become more than 104. That’s a lot of power in your palm. Drop the base of your thumb onto either of the rounded palm keys and HJKL transform into home-row arrow keys, the number keys become F-keys, and WASD give you ultra-precise mouse control. And of course, that's all customizable with our easy-to-use online keyboard layout editor, Chrysalis.
With the optional "octo-feet" tilt and tent kit, your can adjust your Model 100's tilt and tent angles for absolute comfort.
So…Is the Model 100 your type?
The Model 100 is a beautiful, sturdy, well designed keyboard. It's very comfortable -- I really love the versatility in tenting and that I can split the two parts of the keyboard apart to meet my shoulder/posture requirements. The customizable layering system coupled with the novel use of palm keys really makes this keyboard a pleasure to use. Plus, the walnut base, custom sculpted keys, and the LEDs really help make it feel like a premium product.
This is the most outstanding keyboard I have ever used; and I've used a lot of keyboards. Several years ago I was dealing with severe neck and shoulder pain from a herniated disc. I was searching for the best ergonomic keyboard (along with other desk ergonomic setup) and I stumbled across the Model 01 from Keyboardio.
I purchased the Model 01 and it changed my life. The customization that can be done with the software and the keycaps is amazing, but for me the feel of the keyboard and the ergonomic layout of it saved my career.
Two years later, Jesse and Kaia came out with the Model 100 and I backed the Kickstarter campaign IMMEDIATELY. The Model 100 is an upgrade on my beloved Model 01 and I couldn't be happier. I use it every single day for hours and hours.
Thanks to the Model 01 AND Model 100 my neck issues have completely disappeared. This keyboard is a large contributor to extending my career as a programmer. I will back Keyboardio forever.
Bought one for home and one for the office (BOX Silent Tactile / Walnut). I use the tent kit at home and the octo-feet at the office. My favorite aspects of this keyboard are the thumb and palm keys, the sculpted keycaps, and the silky feel of the walnut beneath my wrists.
This is an extremely well put-together keyboard that is a pleasure to use.
It comes with a range of accessories that let's you get your perfect custom setup just right, and the firmware customisation to adjust every possible keypress, layer control and macro to your heart's content.
I love this keyboard, it is really comfortable to type on, highly customizable.
The keys are laid out in a great way, making long typing sessions really comfortable.
I haven't customized the switches or anything, it just works great as ordered!
