Model 01 Kickstarter Day 24: Eugene Maker Space in Eugene, Oregon
Hello from Albany, Oregon! This morning, we set out from Keyboardio World Headquarters in Oakland, CA for a meetup at Eugene Maker Space in Eugene, Oregon. After two days at home, it was hard to say goodbye to the cats and head off to the Pacific Northwest. After seeing record flooding in Oklahoma last week, it was sobering to see just how low the water level in Shasta Lake was. Eugene Maker Space consists of a small front officey area and a larger warehousey feeling common room and shop. Like a bunch of spaces we’ve visited, they have a webcam taking regular snapshots of...
Model 01 Kickstarter Day 21: CRASH Space in Los Angeles
Hello from Keyboardio World Headquarters in Oakland, California! We're stopping over for a couple of days on our trip up the Pacific coast. Yesterday, we were at CRASH Space in Culver City, CA. CRASH space may hold the record for the smallest physical space of any of the hackerspaces we've visited so far. It was, however, remarkably well-equipped. In addition to the ubiquitous common room, they had a sewing and 3D printing lab, a quite respectable EE lab, a laser cutter, a wood shop with a lathe and a ShopBot Desktop, and another shop with a variety of tools including a vacuum-forming...
Model 01 Kickstarter Day 19: Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas
Happy 4th of July! Yesterday morning, we woke up in Scottsdale, Arizona and ended our day in Pasadena, California. In between, we had a meetup in Las Vegas. A week after we scheduled our roadshow, every meetup had at least half a dozen RSVPs...with the exception of Las Vegas. We were definitely passing through Vegas--we had a meetup scheduled in Phoenix and a meetup scheduled in LA. We decided to make the best of what might be a very lonely stopover and scheduled our meetup at the Pinball Hall of Fame. Walking into the venue, the first thing we saw was...
Model 01 Kickstarter Day 18: HeatSync Labs in Mesa, Arizona
Hello from Scottsdale, Arizona, where it is 93 degrees out at midnight! Petrified Forest National Park We started our morning in Grants, New Mexico and set out for HeatSync Labs, in Mesa, Arizona. We had enough time before the meetup that we managed to do something touristy! We spent a couple hours winding our way through Petrified Forest National Park. It was incredible. The scenery in the American southwest is absolutely jaw-dropping. Keyboardio meetup at HeatSync Labs watching Justin Louie's 2013 Model 00 beta tester application. We rolled into Mesa a few minutes before 7pm to find our friend & former housemate...
Model 01 Kickstarter Day 17: New Mexico, The Setup, and Building Your Own Keyboard
Hello from Grants, New Mexico. This morning we woke up somewhere on the outskirts of Colorado Springs, Colorado and, after Jesse did a video interview for Slashdot from the corner of a very, very loud Starbucks, set out for Quelab in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Along the way, we stopped for lunch in Las Vegas (New Mexico) where we saw what may have been the best bookstore name of the trip so far: Tome on the Range. Driving cross country is not without its perks. The driving has been some of the most beautiful we’ve hit on the trip so far. Though, it is...
